Europe is the last bastion for diesel engines, but the oil burner even dies there. The latest numbers of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) underline the downfall of the drive train. In the first two months of 2025, new cars with diesel engines had a share of 8.8% of the total delivery, which was a decrease of 3% compared to the same period of the previous year. In the 2010s, Diesel had a market share among new vehicles that exceeded 50%. One of the main reasons for gradual death are stricter emission regulations that force car manufacturers to retire the Insel.
However, BMW is not yet ready to give up. From the 1 series and X1 to the 7 Series and X7, Bavaria still offers many four- and six-cylinder diesel. A relevant example is the new 2 Series Gran Coupé (Codenamed F74), which can be seen here in a 220d taste. The car manufacturer’s Slovenian branch shows a high-end version of the compact sedan in an individual color. Frozen Portimao Blue Metallic is one of several matt surfaces of the Bavarian luxury brand.
Press cars are usually loaded with optional treats. Sure enough, this 220d Gran Coupé is no exception. BMW shows its smallest limousine on the larger 19-inch wheels. The 976 M design has a y-spoke layout and a two-color finish. The M sports package is also on board, but there are no visible exhaust systems. They are now only reserved for M performance and M models. In the smaller models, the exhaust tip is hidden under the rear bumper.

In the past, blue accents have referred to laser technology in the headlights. However, this is no longer the case. BMW gradually changes to a glare-free matrix LED high beam and uses the blue inner inner accents for cars that are equipped with adaptive lighting technology. The optional headlights in the 2 Series Gran Coupé have a cornering function. Elsewhere, a “2” motif is now embedded in the Hofmeister -Knick and repeats the latest models.
The 2 GC looks more upside down than its predecessor, but we are not sure whether we can say the same thing about the cabin. I prefer the old “F44” reaut -layout with more physical keys and the Idrive -Rotary controller. However, the younger amount prefers to rely on touchscreens to access the functions of a car. If you believe that the quality of the materials does not correspond to the snuff tobacco, this is still BMW’s entry -level sedan. The fancier 3 Series is fancier, provided it fits the budget.
BMW now has two flavors of the 2 Series Gran Coupé. While this standard wheel version is sold worldwide, China also receives a stretched derivative as a F78.
