2026 BMW iX3 with fire red paint: First real pictures

We have already talked about all the colors available at the launch of the BMW iX3 Neue Klasse. However, a color has so far only appeared in online configurators, which do not always reflect the most accurate representation of a color in reality. That changes today, as a new photo gallery shows the electric SUV in fire red for the first time.

Also known as Vegas Red in the US, this color can be found on an iX3 that skips the M Sport package. You can tell that this is the base trim by the more reserved design of the bumpers at both ends of the vehicle. In addition, the illuminated contour surrounding the new vertical kidney grille in BMW’s retro style is no longer present.

There is one notable improvement over the standard equipment: the aerodynamic 21-inch wheels (codename 1049). If there’s one design detail we’d change, it’s the rear wiper. Some automakers tuck it under the roof spoiler for a cleaner look. Given BMW’s push for smoother, more minimalist surfaces in the Neue Klasse design language, it would have made perfect sense here.

Still, Fire Red makes the most of this pared-back aesthetic, emphasizing the true “less is more” approach. In recent years, critics have accused BMW of creating increasingly complex designs full of folds and angles. The iX3 represents a significant step toward visual restraint, particularly in configurations that forego the M Sport package.

The initial feedback has been positive, with European order books already extending into 2026. It’s a promising sign that people are embracing the new design direction. Of course, the WLTP range of 805 kilometers (500 miles) also helped convince buyers to sign on the dotted line. Another big advantage is the quick charging function: a range of 372 kilometers (231 miles) is achieved in just 10 minutes. The 108.7 kWh battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in 21 minutes when connected to a 400 kW DC fast charger. Expect BMW’s future plug-in hybrids to adopt this sixth-generation round cell battery technology.

The iX3 represents a new beginning for BMW, as its design language, hardware and vehicle technology will soon spread across the entire model range. But Neue Klasse is not limited to electric vehicles. The combustion models will also adopt the new design, the iDrive X interface and the Panoramic Vision windshield projection system.

This design will appear to varying degrees on around 40 models by the end of 2027. The next models to get the Neue Klasse treatment will be the 3 Series, i3, X5 and 7 Series next year.
