While BMW is preparing the refresher of the G70 7 series flagship with a medium cycle, prototypes of the updated model have started on the streets of Germany. Of course, we could not resist the challenge to create a speculative render based on the available espionage recordings – even if the camouflage is unusually good in this case. BMW’s disguise strategy works over time, and as a result, our level of trust in this render is lower than usual. Nevertheless, there are just enough information that are hidden in sight to make a convincing case of what the 2027 BMW 7 series could look like.
A new face with familiar tricks
Let’s start with the front where the transformation is most clear. The current 7 Series proudly always wore its shared headlight design – or so we thought. Until recently, all LCI prototypes (life cycle -Impulse) from spy photographers seemed to fend the split setup completely. However, that was a clever bait.
Just like BMW for the original G70 before its debut 2022, the brand hid the upper DRL elements with decoys. Now new spy photos confirm what some feared: glue the shared lights. And in this updated form, the LED-Tag run lights have developed.
In the following, a wide trapezoidal taking with a vertical halved element reflects the aggressive appearance of the new M5. This detail gives the face tension and structure and balances the visual weight of the kidneys.
The kidney grilles themselves undergo – larger, angular and horizontal slats that indicate M -performance equipment. Revice changes: minimal, but useful
The rear design is more reserved, but that doesn’t mean that it is without intrigue. The latest spy shots recorded a test mule in motion, but even at speed, the lighting elements told a story. While the prototype seemed to offer a clear taillight covers – probably a temporary solution – their total shape, width and placement are probably final. And here things become interesting: A closer look shows what seems to be a slim LED light bar that runs over the trunk. It’s passed on, but it’s there. And like the vision of new class concept from 2023, the LED strip seems to be halved by the BMW Roundel. Coincidence? We doubt it.
The taillights themselves show triangular extensions on their outer edges, which indicates that they may not form a continuous bar. This gives the idea that BMW occupies more nee-class-inspired design language about its line-up, especially for Halo products such as the 7 Series.
Further down the rear bumper is accentuated by a large black dual party diffuser with integrated vertical reflectors. In the case of m performance models – in particular those with electrical drive strands – this diffuser adds visual flair and aerodynamic function, while you get the elegant posture that defines the 7 SERE.
Idrive X and a digital revolution inside
While our render focuses on the outer design, there is reason to assume that the cabin also goes through a significant transformation. Although the interior of the espionage car was hidden, the silhouette and the angle of the dashboard suggest that iDrive 8 with its dual screen layout is equipped by somewhat more radical.
According to what we can judge, the reimbursed 7 series will take over the new Idrive X system with a free-standing central display and the new panoramic view projection of BMW-a wide column-to-pillar display element, which runs just above the tapboard on the base of the Windshield. This setup was presented for the first time in the vision of the new class and will later be debut in the new class IX3 SUV this year.
While the 7 Series remains the BMW flagship, it will not be the first to debut this next generation infotainment system. This honor belongs to the IX3, which will premiere at the IAA mobility show in Munich in September. Nevertheless, the 7 Series will probably be the first luxury sedan in the BMW portfolio, which you get -and technical limits in a class that appreciates digital refinement as well as physical comfort.
