Few cars have shaped BMW’s history as much as the E30 M3. Nearly four decades after its debut, one of its most recognizable details, the Evolution model’s iconic seat fabric, has found a new purpose. The Munich-based manufacturer of Apple Watch straps, Bandwerk, has made a limited Apple Watch strap called EVO Special Edition.
Made from genuine E30 M3 fabric
The EVO belt is made of original seat fabric from the BMW E30 M3 Evolution. It is the same dark gray material, woven with diagonal stripes in blue, purple and red, the iconic colors of BMW M. Each shade had a meaning: blue for BMW, red for motorsport and purple, which later turned into dark blue, symbolizing the mixture of the two.
At the end of the 1980s, BMW M used interior materials like this to give its road vehicles a direct visual connection to the race track. The interior of the E30 M3 Evolution was simple, robust and instantly recognizable. Now parts of this material have been preserved in a breathtaking way by Bandwerk and put to new use.
Made by hand, limited to 999 pieces
Each band is handcrafted in Germany from authentic E30 M3 material. Production is strictly limited to 999 units. Every band has their own engraved serial number and a certificate of authenticity, beautifully packaged in a wooden box. Because the weave and pattern of the original fabric varies slightly between each section, No two straps are exactly the samewhich makes each one a truly unique piece of BMW history.
A subtle connection to a classic
The E30 M3 Evolution was built for homologation, a car that BMW designed for racing use. Lightweight fairings, improved aerodynamics and the high-revving S14 engine made it one of the most focused M cars ever produced. Inside, however, the design still seemed understated.
This mix of practicality and simplicity is what Bandwerk captures here. The EVO harness doesn’t try to imitate the car; It quietly harkens back to a time when M cars were raw, mechanical and unfiltered.
