BMW 1 series M Register Breaks Record with 105 cars in Nürburgring

The BMW 1 series M Register has been organizing the world’s largest meeting that is dedicated to one of the most popular modern classics of BMW M: the BMW 1 series M Coupé. What started as a passion project has now developed into a phenomenon, and the history was written at the annual meeting 2025. For the first time, more than 100 examples of the compact legend came together, with a stunning 105 cars on the Nürburgring.

The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. During the famous race weekend of 1,000 kilometers, so many 1 MS found so many fans as the true highlight of the event. For those who still remember the debut of the 2011 car, it was a memory of why this “Baby M” left such a huge brand for the BMW story.

A parade under the direction of history

Saturday delivered perfect weather in late summer when the 105-member convoy was based on two guided rounds of the Nürburgring north grinding. Fittingly, the Pace Car was a legendary BMW 2002 Turbo, the spiritual advance in the 1 series M Coupé.

When the cars roared through the green hell, Valencia orange naturally dominated the field and reflected the iconic start color of the 1M. It is also the color of my own 1-series M coupé, one of only 700 examples that are officially delivered to the USA. To see dozens of Valencia orange cars that are snake through the north loop was a goosebumps – not as a journalist, but as a co -owner.

But the convoy was not quite orange. Sapphire black and alpine white models added a contrast, while a particularly rare sight attracted a lot of attention: the only 1 series M ever painted in Java Green. The nickname “Green Mamba”, it became famous when he was delivered to BMW Welt in Munich more than a decade ago – and it is still noticeable today as a unicorn.

Rain or sunshine that delivers 1m

The Nordlaf round set the tone, but Sunday brought a new challenge. Rain swept over the Nürburgring -GP circuit and let the route smooth and tricky. But 55 cars dry the conditions and laid a spectacular demonstration of the balanced chassis of the 1M, the agility of the rear wheel drive and the timeless character of his 340-hp-inline-six.

Even if the weather worked against them, the participants grinned the route. It was proof of what made the 1 series M primarily: a purist’s driving machine with exactly the right amount of wildness.

Eliminate the numbers

The meeting also gave the register the opportunity to pay one of the most ongoing myths around the car. The enthusiasts discussed for years how many were actually built. Some sources demanded 6,309 units, others quoted 6,342. It turns out that the answer is both: BMW built 6.309 for customers and 33 additional units for tests and development.

This makes the 1M even less common than many thought – and gatherings like this even more important. [Photos: Rene Hey – @cannoneer / Thomas Heiringhoff]
