BMW USA has announced a wave of updates for its 5 and M5 vehicle family and improved everything, from charging functions and tire repair solutions to internal adjustments and electrical reach. These updated updates, which are produced from March 2025, reflect BMW’s persistent commitment to mixing luxury, innovation and practicality in its medium -sized structure of flagships.
Faster charging for plug-in hybrids

One of the most important improvements is an upgrade to the AC charge rate for BMW plug-in hybrid models. The BMW 550E XDRIVE, BMW X5 XDRIVE50E and the BMW M5 are now supporting charging speeds of up to 11 kW, a remarkable increase compared to the previous 7.4 kW.
This thrust enables much faster recharging times, especially when using loading facilities for home or workplace, so that the drivers can maintain electrical driving and reduce the dependence on gasoline in everyday use.
Seal & Drive Tire Kit
An outstanding innovation is the new Seal & Drive Reifen-Kit from BMW, which is contained as standard equipment in all 5 models from March 2025. The KIT has a one-piece system that is magnetically attached to the wheel hub at the bike node.
With an integrated compressor, it fills the damaged tire with air and sealant. As soon as 20 PSI or more are reached, the vehicle can drive up to 120 miles with the device that is still assembled safely at a speed of up to 50 miles per hour. This offers a soothing mobility layer for drivers in remote areas or unwanted weather conditions that may not be possible.
New colors, materials and digital details
BMW also extends the visual and tactile personalization options for the 5 and M5.
New outdoor and interior colors:
- Frozen Portimao Blue Metallic connects the outer color for the full 5 series setup.
- Two fresh merino leather combinations debut:
- Dark violet/Atlas Gray
- Taupe/Atlas Gray
Two additional exclusive leather options are available for the BMW M5:
- Dark violet/black merino
- Taupe/Deep Lagoon Merino
These new leather materials are combined with a refined switchgear, which are now completed in black high gloss. The previous switchgear consisted of a cheaper matt plastic material. The black with a high gloss has to scratch its own disadvantages and show many fingerprints-but it is superior.
i5 range increases a thrust

The allelectric i5 models from BMW-EDRIVE40 and XDRIVE40 rows Optimizations of the drive train that reduce energy consumption and increase the drive area. BMW will not say which updates have been implemented, but we suspect that they are similar to those in the new IX: new carbid interior versions and mushrooms, tires that have been rated, for example, for rolling resistance.
