BMW continues to move Mercedes and Audi in Europe

The latest European sales figures are promising in BMW fans. The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) reports that arch -rival Mercedes and Audi fall back. In the first seven months of the year, BMW sold 474,149 units, an increase of 2.6% compared to the same period in 2024.

By July, Mercedes headed 388,876 units, almost a flat year compared to the previous year of +0.3%. Audi was third with 381,895 deliveries, a decline of 5.5% compared to the same time frame last year. Audi is not the only luxury brand Volkswagen Group that is fighting: Porsche’s turnover has decreased by 10.9% to 57,777 units.

ACEA data includes registrations in all 27 EU member states as well as the United Kingdom and the four countries of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA): Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. Although this does not represent the entire continent, this includes the most relevant markets.

In addition to the German rivals from BMW, Lexus tacitly wins on the ground from 9% to 46,317 units. Alfa Romeo under Stellantis has increased 34% to 37,442 cars. In the meantime, Jaguar has led to a collapse of 82.2% in deliveries to only 2,820 vehicles.

Volvo, owned by Tata Motors, also fights with the European programs by 13.2% to 195,266 units. Tesla sees itself even more sharply and sinks by 33.6% to 119,013 cars by July.

At this pace, BMW looks good on the right track to secure the European luxury sales crown for 2025. If you are further forward, it also seems to be cheap when the new IX3 arrives on the continent, which will soon be accompanied by the i3 sedan and strengthens BMW’s hand when keeping Mercedes and Audi in chess.

What about Mini? The brand based in Oxford also has a solid year. Between January and July it sold 95,189 cars, which corresponds to a jump of 19%. The increase in demand is not entirely surprising, considering that the British brand has effectively refreshed its entire line -up.

We are already wondering whether Alpina will be listed separately in ACEA’s documents as soon as the Niche brand will be in operation from 2026 under the company umbrellas of the BMW Group.
