BMW from North America has announced a recall that affects 4,397 vehicles in several 2025 model lines, since concern that the electrical connection between the starter generator and the battery can relax, represents the risk of motor stalls or in rare cases, overheating and potential fire hazards.

According to the recall indicator submitted at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA campaign number: 25V-202), the problem comes from the mild hybrid starter generator unit (ISG), which was identified by part number 5A716F0. Vehicles that were manufactured within certain date areas and extend from October 2024 to March 2025 were identified as potentially affected.

Production date areas:

  • 2025 3 Series (330i variants): November 27, 2024 – February 26, 2025
  • 2025 5 Series (530i variants): October 10, 2024 – 23 January, 2025
  • 2025 4 Series (Coupé, Gran Coupé, Cabrio): October 10, 2024 – 28 January, 2025
  • 2025 X3 30 XDrive: November 6, 2024 – March 10, 2025 (Spartanburg – Werk, South Carolina)

The main concern is that a loose connection can cause a temporary or complete loss of electricity, which may lead to motor stall scenarios that increase the risk of crash.
