BMW from North America is expanding the price protection to 3 series models, which were built in his work in San Luis Potosí in Mexico by the end of May 2025, a BMW spokesman. The move comes when the USA for vehicles made in Mexico imposed total imports of 27.5%. This is a significant jump from the previous 2.5% goal.

The update was communicated to the dealers via an internal bulletin and follows the earlier public explanation of BMW in order to confirm its intention to protect customers from immediate price changes.

However, not all models will be spared. BMW has confirmed that 2-series coupé and M2 models, which were also built exclusively in Mexico, will record a modest MSRP increase of approx. 4% for vehicles that were produced after May 1st. This adaptation reflects the brand’s attempt to partially compensate for the potential effects of new tariffs without disturbing the demand for performance -oriented offers.

The San Luis Potosí plant from BMW plays a key role in the delivery of 3 series and 2 Series Coupé models for the US market. While the company also produces the 3 Series in Munich and offers a certain flexibility in production procurement, the 2 Series Coupé and M2 do not share this advantage.

The German car manufacturer has not excluded further price revisions if tariff policy is not unchanged over May. Industry analysts expect BMW and other car manufacturers to be exposed to increasing pressure with Mexican production in order to either absorb increased costs or pass them on to consumers.

For the time being, customers who benefit from a new 3 Series, at least in spring, will benefit from price stability. Performance enthusiasts who consider a 2 Series coupe or M2 may want to act before the border from May 1st to avoid the upcoming price increase.
