Outside of Supercars and EVS, the BMW M4 competition with XDrive is one of the fastest accelerating cars that can buy money. It only takes three and a half seconds to reach 100 km/h. 80 to 120 km/h in fourth gear only lasts 2.6 seconds. Switch to fifth place and the task takes place in 3.4 seconds. But how does the all-PAW coupé drive off a light track focusing machine in a drag race?
The G82 had to duel the less powerful but far lighter Ariel Atom 4R in a series of straight line acceleration tests. The BMW luxury coupe certainly has an advantage when it comes to electricity by providing 530 hp and 650 Nm (479 LB-FT) from its 3.0-liter inline-Six engine from Twin-Turbo engine. His opponent uses a more modest 2.0-liter unit that was borrowed by Honda. The engine of the Civic Type R was legally delivered to 400 hp and 500 Nm (369 LB-FT) for this game toy on the road.
The M4 weighs 1,775 kg (3,913 LBS), while the Ariel Atom 4R is only 665 kg (1,466 lbs). This means that the BMW is more than two and a half times heavier than the Ariel. However, the car with a roof over the driver’s head has the advantage of all -wheel drive. The open top machine only guides the rear wheels.

As you can imagine, the tires of the BMW are much wider, which makes it easier to put the power supply on the street. Another big difference between the two is that the Bavarian machine has an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission, in contrast to the faster six-speed quay sequential transmission in the atom 4R.
Although the M4 has some clear advantages, they cannot compensate for the weight gap between the two cars. Although the drag races are withdrawn at the beginning, it was always second. Nevertheless, the BMW has completed the quarter mile in 11.2 seconds on a less ideal surface. It was only a tenth of a second slower than his opponent. The M4 had no chance in the subsequent role races for half a mile and also lost in the brake test.
It would be interesting to see a BMW fighter for the Ariel Atom 4R, but it probably won’t happen. It would address a niche market that is already well covered by other brands such as Caterham.
