Every year – maybe even more often – rumors seem to dive through a new BMW super sports car. Regardless of whether it is an no longer existing electric Supercar project or a nutty wedge prototype, you don’t have to look far—-or have the big memory-to remember an alleged super sports car from Bavaria. Most of the time, these projects end up on the bottom of the cutting room instead of reaching the next exhibition space. The concept of a BMW super sports car -and its perceived failure to start BMW enthusiasts. In fact, there is a convincing argument that BMW should instead concentrate on bringing better and more regular old sports cars onto the market.
A BMW sports car could have existed this decade – maybe it does it

A potentially missed opportunity is the current generation Z4. Enthusiastic one of your narrator’s feeling that the G29 Z4 would have been perfect with a fixed roof version. The car dynamically delivers everything you need. It fits in style. With the additional rigidity and Swoopy Silhouette, which is offered a coupĂ© body style, there is little to ask as an enthusiast. Of course there is the car that we have absolutely described in the Toyota Supra – what we could get closer to a real BMW sports car in the past ten years.
That means: someone remembers the Supra Grmn? Persistent rumors indicate that Toyota/BMW could one day put the S58 under the bonnet. Unfortunately, it looks like this plan has never come into play because the Supra will leave production next spring. Neither “Final Edition” Supra (very different cars came to Europe/Row and USA) have unfortunately advertised the M-Sourcing power plant.

How about everything in the world did BMW miss the chance to stuff the hood of the Z4 with the Rowdy Twin turbo engine? A coupé would have been a dream, but even as a roadster, an M-Tooled Z4 would have made the fantastic Z4 hand switch tame in comparison. The advantages of the car would have been enormous: primarily, branded seal of approval and an accessible price (all parts would finally be from the shelf) that would still have been profitable.
Is the time for another BMW sports car?

There are three parts of the spectrum “sports car”. The first and accessible area is the market for $ 30,000 to $ 40,000, on which cars such as the Toyota Gr86 and Mazda Miata Play. There is no chance that BMW will develop a participant there, although this could. This leaves the second extreme, the market on which cars such as the Porsche Cayman and Corvette exist. The market for $ 70,000 -80,000 US dollars, where BMW’s Z4 sports car might have been involved. Finally, there is a base -Porsche 911 territory, around 130,000 US dollars.
We will be realistic: 130,000 US dollars are probably too much to request a BMW sports car. Between the i8 – which was never critical or financially a great success – and the openly catastrophic XM, we are not sure whether BMW M has the street defender to reduce a real Porsche 911 competitor. The development of a special sports car platform is also expensive, and we are not sure whether BMW would ever be convinced. Unless, of course, BMW avoided the gas power and beat everyone with a real EV sports car against the blow (except perhaps Tesla). Which of course opens up a can of worms …
This leaves our best bet on a BMW sports car in the range of 75,000 US dollars and is probably extended to up to 90,000 US dollars. In view of the possibility of a hybridized S58 that comes onto the market, we believe that the performance benchmark would be easy to meet. Around 600 hp would not be any problems. Provided that BMW could keep weight low, possibly if you are based on an optimized Z4/Supra platform, the car would still be a performance dynamo.
BMW laser is currently on new class. So the prospects for an ICE BMW sports car does not seem to be good. Especially with half the millions of dollar skytop Green illuminated BMW probably when it comes to bringing some dubious concepts to life. You shouldn’t be because the skytop will print money for the brand – you are sold out. Perhaps the next time the brand will consider a halo car with 50 units of half a million dollar-helo car, which are considering a run of 5000 units of a hundred thousand dollar sports car that is actually driven.
