You saw the concept and the camouflaged prototype, but where is the production ready for production? BMW is not quite ready to unveil the final version. In the meantime, we have learned that those who have shot at great money for beauty with Targa-Top-Beauty must be patient for a while. The first cars were planned for delivery in early 2026.
BMW has not yet confirmed the official price of the Skytop, although it is supposed to wear a sticker of € 500,000. The latest Intel suggests that it could have been even more expensive, but there is no official confirmation. Despite the massive premium compared to the M8, the coachbuilt Car was a commercial success. The luxury brand based in Munich did not sell all 50 units long after the concept of the concept. As a refreshment, the Skytop was premiered last May at Concorso d’Elanza Villa d’Este.
The skytop serves as a swan song of the 8 Series, which will relax later this year. Sources near BMW told us that the remaining versions should be stopped in 2026. Mechanically, the two-seater roadster is almost identical to the donor car, but this familiar package wraps in a much more stylish body. A modern version of the Sharknose design and a perfectly proportional kidney grille are among our favorite design information.

While the next generation X5 will be the first series model of BMW to integrate door handles into the belt, the limited skytop will technically hit it. We hope that the turbine style bikes will make it. The removable roof wrapped with leather is a certainty, as the striking red top on the Nürburgring prototype shows at the beginning of this year.
Other details such as the slim lights, the elegant central fin and the red -brown interior also adhere to. It is unlikely that BMW will equip the skytop with its latest iDrive, so that these 50 cars retain the older interface with separate physical elements on the center console. But as with the 3.0 CSL, there is a strong case for a more timeless interior.
Analog measuring devices, perhaps in the sense of the central dials of the Z8, helped the Skytop to age gracefully. We would certainly have preferred them to today’s ubiquitous digital clusters. The chances are good that it would have required a lot of costly neo -gineering. Since this is a limited product, it was probably not worth the trouble.
