It has only been a little more than a month since the M2 CS cover broke off, but competitive sport has already made headlines again. BMW teases an official Nürburgring round time for the hottest G87 variant so far. We have to wait until tomorrow to find out how quickly the sports coupé in the rear wheel drive attracts the green hell.
Judging by the video below, the hot round was carried out with a prototype of local production. The camouflaged car suggests that the M2 CS made the clock before the official debut at the end of May. How fast was it? An educated assumption brings the time under 7 minutes and 38.7 seconds. The regular M2 stopped a round in 2023 when it claimed the compact class record for the longer layout of 20.8 kilometers (12.9 miles).
Since then, the Audi RS3 has taken over this crown and hit a 7: 33.1 round in 2024. We will soon see whether the M2 CS can get the title for BMW back. The development manager Dirk Häcker recently informed us that the car is almost as fast as the M4 CS.
The key word is “almost”. It would not make sense that the M2 CS exceed its larger siblings, so his time is probably slower than the 7: 21.9 of the M4 CS. It will also follow the M4 -CSL that made an even better 7: 18.1. The real goal is not in BMW’s own stable, but from Audi Sport. After all, it wouldn’t look good if the M2 CS were slower than the RS3, right?
In order to exceed Inline-Five compact limousines, the M2 CS must extinguish the 5.6-second gap between the regular M2 and the RS3. This seems to be within reach when you consider that the CS contains an additional 50 PS and 36 LB-FT (50 Nm) via the standard model. It is also around 30 kilograms in Europe and 97 pounds in the US BMW has confirmed that the car is offered with “Ultra-Track” tirger, which should further improve its performance around the Nürburgring north loop.
Take a look again tomorrow to get the official lap time. In the meantime we bet that it ends up somewhere in the range from 7:30 to 7:32. If the M2 -CSL becomes reality, it can even drop below the 7:30 mark. Unless that happened with the CS.
