It has been a while since BMW recently presented an update of the M1 restoration. The car in question is a white E26 that crashed in 2013 during the Concorso d’Elanza Villa d’Este. A new one Instagram Post reveals that the mid-engine super sports car has now been put on its mere metal.
The legendary artist Walter Maurer helps BMW, which leads to a creation that will be exquisite. The 82-year-old artist employee knows one or two things about the M1 after painting several procars in the early 1980s. Some examples of streets also have its signature.
This is not the first rodeo of BMW Classic with the revival of an M1. Ronnie Fiegs Techno Violet needed a whole year. As with the current work at work, it is one of the 399 street cars. These wedge-shaped, street legal coupes were compiled between 1978 and 1981, with 54 racing versions of Procar-Spec racing versions produced in the same period.
The restoration goes far beyond the refreshment of the color and varnish of the body designed by Giugiaro. BMW also overtakes the internal of the M1, including the striking heart. The natural 3.5-liter inline-Six code codened “M88” receives the full BMW-classical treatment. In the past, he supplied 273 hp and 330 Nm (243 LB-FT) to the rear wheels on the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.
The disassembly of one of the 163 white car offers the perfect opportunity to restore every mother and every bolt. The finished product should match the quality of the original Baur-Assem car. How long will it take? Since the work started in February, it is unlikely that the M1 will be completed at some point in 2026.
Two years later, BMW will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Supercar. For its 30th birthday, the M1 2008 was honored with the homage concept. However, the planned production version, which had a V10 -V10 component, has never been concluded. Will there be at least one more concept in 2028? Only BMW white. In any case, you will not soon expect a spiritual successor, as M -boss Frank van Meel recently told us that it was not a priority.
