In the area of rare Porsche 911, some sit in a very own league. Of all production 911 created over the decades, the 964 Carrera 4 Lightweight – or lightweight construction – must be among the rarest. Only 22 examples were produced, all of which were born from the vision of Le Mans winners and legendary Porsche engineer Jürgen Barth. This car, the chassis 964 001, is the very first: a prototype of museum degrees with unique, unique details, which it distinguishes it even under this rare group.
Barth, then head of the Porsche customer race, discovered a cache of replacement all-wheeler systems from the 953 Paris-Dakar rally cars that sit in the motorsport department. These systems have been advanced for their time, which enabled an active adjustment of the torque distribution from the front to Rear and the manipulation of the lock-up of the rear differential on the fly. Barth saw the opportunity to create a slight all -wheel drive 911 for the use of customer engine sports.
Porsche selected body shells from the 964 series, which were removed from the main production line, and exposed it to seam welding for increased rigidity. Standard panels were replaced by relieved alternatives. The drive train from the 953 Dakar car was installed, combined with a five-speed gear with a short ratio and with a naturally sucked 3.6-liter flat-shaped with 265 hp combined-the same engine that supplies the Carrera RS with electricity. The resulting car weighed only 1070 kg and delivered an exceptional performance, with reserved styling connected its motorsport potential.
CHASSIS 001 is the most important of the 22nd. As a factory prototype, it contains a wealth of unique, unique features. This includes early prototype measuring devices and labels, a tailor-made matter-of-cage and special places in 934 style, which would influence the calls used by call. Many of the systems of the engine and auxiliary systems differ from the production cars and offer a unique insight into the development process of Porsche.

Even the labels with all -wheel drive appear handmade, with embossed adhesive tape directly from a stationery drawer from the 1980s. From its unusual equipment to its reserved character, 964 001 illustrates the experimental creativity of the motorsport division of Porsche from its best side.
This car knows the property of new and perfect origin. It was initially sold to Kerry Morse, a close friend and collaborator from Barth himself. It later went through the hands of remarkable American collectors, including Frank Gallogy from Englewood, New Jersey; Dr. William Jackson from Denver, Colorado; The Ingram Collection; and Matthew F. Ammirati of Bridhampton, New York.

The car was acquired by the current owner in 2017 and imported to Great Britain in 2022 and has removed a little more than 1,000 miles from. His mileage remains in kilometers. The drive train is completely original and suitable, the color remains factory and in excellent condition, and the interior design is complete and correct. Although the original seats have been overturned, use the exact correct material and pattern.
In 2024 the car in Richard Tuthill, including New Bridgestone tires, was subjected to full service.

As part of the sale, the car has a tailor -made report by Jürgen Barth himself, which was put together again after a personal visit to Chassis 001 in Great Britain. Barth said the history of his development and her journey by the machine that he helped to create. These memories are now recorded in a document that gives the already historical status of this car even more weight.
In short, CHASSIS 001 is not just the first and best of the Carrera 4 lightweight construction cars. It is a reference example – pure, original and closed. A cornerstone in every Porsche collection and a unique opportunity. It is currently being offered for sale with Kilko rooms in Great Britain.
