E30 M3, CSL, 2002 and Z4 GT3 in action

The Silverstone Classic 2025 has again fulfilled its reputation as one of the largest historical racing festivals in the world. This year, BMW was in front and in the middle, represented in several racing networks and in the Car Club Displays. From the early 1970s “Batmobiles” to modern GT3 machines, the width of the BMW racing history was completely exhibited.

Only a few cars embody the early racing spirit of BMW better than the BMW 2002. With its two-liter four-cylinder engine, the light body and the simple engineering, the audience in 2002 recalled why it became such an effective touring car in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The BMW E24 635csi Group A -Competition Coupé went on the track for a decade. This large coupé with a straight SIX was a stable ward of the European Touring Car Championship in the early 1980s, which won thanks to its mixture of power and stability. In Silverstone, the 635csi wore the same group a spirit, with its long hood and the low roof line being targeted decades later.

The star of the BMW touring car entries, however, was the BMW M3 E30 Group A. There were several examples on the grid and wore paintwork that fans brought back to the late 1980s and early 1990s. Among them: the white and blue FINA M3, the bright red bastos cars by Steve Soper and even a car with Monte shell liver. Each E30 M3 was driven by the S14 four-cylinder engine, which overtook well over 8,000 rpm, and still showed why this car was remembered as one of the most successful touring cars that were ever built.

The BMW CSL “Batmobile”

Another highlight of the weekend was the BMW 3.0 CSL, the car that BMW gave the first real hold in the international touring car in the 1970s. Several CSLs drove in Silverstone, each with their wide arches and high rear wings.

An outstanding Jägermeister CSL from 1973 was in his famous orange paint. Another crowd favorite was the Belga team CSL and remembered the European heroic deeds of the Belgian squad. The CSL SIX engine, combined with its dramatic aerodynamics, made it one of the most diverse cars online. Fans often call it the “Batmobil” and saw several examples in competition underlined how important this car was to form BMW’s racing identity.

Efforts of prototypes and group C

BMW’s racing history goes beyond the journey of cars, and that was seen in the race of Group C. The 86G-BMW-GTP 86G-BMW took part, which was the attempts by BMW in the 1980s to take part in the long-distance race. With its BMW turbo-loaded, well-founded engine, the march was not the dominant power of its time, but it was a fascinating entry in a field full of Porsches and Jaguars. His appearance at Silverstone reminded the fans that BMW experimented long before the brand’s later successes in the prototype race.

A car with BMW-Power 782 F2 also appeared with BMW Power, once connected to drivers such as Marc Sureer at the end of the 1970s. The 2.0-liter BMW engine was a main support in Formula 2, which contributed to starting the careers of several future Formula 1 drivers.

The new historical GT3 series

One of the fresh features of the Silverstone Classic 2025 was the historical GT3 series, which has the chance to join the historical networks from the 2000s and early 2010s. BMW’s line -up was also strong here. The BMW Z4 GT3, once a regular series of endurance such as The Blancpain GT, made its classic debut. With its long hood, its wide posture and its naturally sucked 4.4 liter V8, the Z4 GT3 already feels like a modern classic. Several examples were made in the series and marked the first time that many fans had treated them as historic racing drivers.

In addition to the Z4, other BMW GT entries, including an E92 M3 GT4, which was a popular customer racing car in his time, and a V8 PTG E46 M3 GT, a machine with American roots that started in IMSA. These cars, which were once seen as state -of -the -art, are now part of the developing history that begins to recognize events such as Silverstone Classic.

Off-track gathered the BMW Car Club Great Britain an impressive display in the club driver’s warehouse. Enthusiasts brought everything from untouched E30 and CSL street cars to modern M models and offered a snapshot of the history of BMW beyond the racing cars. For many fans, this was an opportunity to approach the cars with which they grew up or still drove every day, which complements the action on the route with the strong presence of the club.
