The BMW Group is an automotive giant and operates more than ten vehicle assembly plants worldwide. A significant portion of production remains based in Germany, where the luxury car maker operates four factories. A wide range of models from the compact 1 Series to the flagship 7 Series are built at the Dingolfing, Leipzig, Munich and Regensburg locations.
In 2025, production at BMW’s German plants was once again in the seven-figure range, and more than a million vehicles were assembled on site. To put that in perspective, one in four cars built in Germany last year was either a BMW or a MINI. According to the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), 4.15 million cars were produced nationwide, around 25% of which were products from the BMW Group.
Below you will find a table showing which models are produced in each of the four German factories. However, changes are emerging. For example, production of the 3 Series will be relocated from Munich to Dingolfing, coinciding with the launch of the “G50” later this year. In addition, the all-electric i3 sedan (“NA0”) will go into production in Munich in the second half of 2026.

Time is running out for the 8 Series manufactured in Dingolfing, the last examples are scheduled to roll off the assembly line in the coming months. Unfortunately, BMW has no plans for a direct successor. Although nothing has been officially confirmed yet, it could be that the 3 Series Touring is also missing out on a next generation. The void left by the rumored “G51” could instead be filled by the unconfirmed i3 Touring (“NA1”).
Looking ahead, it is unlikely that the iX will be renewed. The end of the polarizing electric SUV after a single generation would free up capacity for the next 3 Series. BMW probably doesn’t see a long-term need for another iX, especially given the launch of the iX5 this year. A larger iX7 will be added to the product range from 2027. These very first models are expected to be built at the Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.
Speaking of new-class products: The Regensburg plant is scheduled to build an NK model this decade. Whether this is the already spied next-generation iX1 or something else remains unclear. That “something different” could be the i1 hatchback and/or i2 sedan, both expected before 2030.
If sources close to BMW are correct, the Leipzig plant will phase out the 2 Series Active Tourer in October 2027. It’s unlikely that the minivan will get a successor because, well, it’s a BMW minivan…
