BMW will have an electric car in each segment by 2030

The BMW group will keep its goal by 2030 that electric cars make up more than 50% of the annual sales. It is an ambitious plan when you consider that EVS held a total of 17.4% in total last year. However, the German luxury brand has the reason to be confident, since the electrical share rose to 18.7% in the first quarter of 2025.

In order to meet this goal of 50% in just five years and possibly exceed, BMW intends to offer at least one EV in every segment in which it is currently competing. This effectively means that a smaller model is written below the IX1. As a result, these long-term I1 and/or I2 models are expected in the meantime. The former is considered a small assembly line, while the latter could be an Electric 2 series -Gran coupé. Both will drive on a platform with rear wheel drive base.

Since BMW is currently selling two cars, a zero emission treatment is expected. We rely on an i3 tour, probably with the code name “Na1” in Munich’s headquarters. The Bavarians also offer three convertibles, although the Z4 and 8 series are to be stopped. In addition, it is unlikely that the 4 -series series will get a new generation with internal combustion engines. Nevertheless, an i4 convertible, reported “Na3”, could take place before 2030. “Na2” would come after an i4 coupé.

BMW is also missing an electric SUV in full size, but this role was assigned to the upcoming IX7, including an alpina variant. A segment below, the recently revised IX will at some point give an IX5 and a coupé style IX6.

Of course, the backbone of BMWS EV set up the next generation will be the IX3 and i3. The compact electrical crossover will be debut at the IAA mobility show in Munich in early September. A Langrad-IX3 was confirmed next year alongside a global i3 sedan for China. As with the current i3 in China, his successor will probably have a stretched wheelbase for an increased legroom behind the rear legroom.

BMW states that an EV is available for 100% of today’s market segments. It means that all future EVs will compete in existing segments. Do not expect an electric pickup or another model that you can currently buy with combustion engines. Although a minivan is still available, an Electric 2 Series Active Tourer seems to be very unlikely.
