In December 2024 we reported that BMW is not planning an internal combustion successor for the X4. Instead, the Coupé SUV is expected to return in 2027 as an all-electric BMW IX4 (Codename NA7) based on the new class platform. While BMW has not yet officially confirmed this part, he has now confirmed that the production of the current X4 is coming to an end.
Petrol X4 removed from the German configurator
As Auto motor and sports Remark that customers who go to the BMW configurator will no longer find petrol -x4 models. Instead, you will be met with a message: “This model is not available in the selected model series. They were redirected to a similar model.” This is because petrol variants of the X4 have been dropped from the line -up.
It is part of BMW’s wider efforts to rationalize its portfolio. The X4 is not the only model affected, but at the moment we are concentrating on the coupé-like siblings of the X3.

The current BMW X4, which was introduced in 2018, is still based on the previous G01 X3 platform (or F97 in the case of the X4 m). In contrast to the newly published G45 X3, there is no successor in sight for the X4. BMW has not commented on what’s next.
What you have confirmed to the car engine and sport is the production facility:
- Petrol X4 models ended the production on September 30, 2025.
- Diesel versions – the 20d, 30d and M40D – continue longer for a short time, but will also bow at the end of November 2025.

What’s next for the X4
With petrol and diesel models that leave the line-up by the end of 2025, the X4 is on a break. Rumors strongly indicate that the replacement of the all-electric IX4 will be, which is to enter production in November 2026 in the new BMW debris plant. In addition, a full -fledged X4 M (“ZA7”) can arrive later to complete the line -up. Downwards, the IX4 is expected to reflect the IX3, which has so far only been announced in 50 XDRIVE, 40 XDRIVE and 40 SDRIVE aromas. An M Performance IX4 M60 is scheduled to arrive in spring 2027.
