How new class cars will sound

A few years ago, BMW did waves by teaming up with the Oscar winner Hans Zimmer to give his electric vehicles a futuristic soundtrack. Now the BMW Sound Design Studio is performing for the next EV family. It made a new generation of synthetic sounds under the banner “Hypfer”.

The goal? To reproduce the immersive emotion of driving an ice vehicle and at the same time enjoy the silence and smoothness of the electrical performance. In personal and sporty modes alone, there are 43 unique sound signals and special driving effects that simulate an appealing experience. Well, it is so committed without a gas engine. But not everything is done by machines. The BMW sound team even created a multilingual choir with the natural voices of its own employees.

In order to build hyperlaicx, BMW’s algorithm has awarded over nine million sound variations. The team then selected the best for its upcoming new class. The first production model with this new soundscape? The next generation IX3, which is scheduled to debut in Munich at the beginning of September. The i3 sedan is pursued in 2026, with at least four more models coming by 2028.

It is not the first time that we heard the Hyperx Term. BMW also used the marketing jargon when the vision had a new class X premiere and referred to its steering wheel. The conceptual electrical SUV enabled the drivers to change the sound generated in real time by tapping the steering wheel buttons. With Hypersch, BMW tries to build a more emotional bridge between the car and driver, even if there is no roaring engine. Compared to the former Iconicsounds Electric, this new suite contains less fundamental notes, but they are now more severe, more dynamic and with a human character “pop”.

Sure, we still miss the growling of a V8 or howling an inline six, but when the reality is off the table, BMW does its best to give EVS a little soul. In fact, they even annoyed a simulated straight line for the upcoming Electric M3. If you prefer the real offer, there will be another six -cylinder M3. In addition, the V8 engines are also here to stay. Source: BMW
