The new class era from BMW will take control of the upcoming BMW i3 sedan (NA0), the electrical 3 of the brand. This is only built on the new NEE class platform and is not a modified version of today’s G20 3-series-es is an electrical architecture and a clean design that defines the future list of limousines from BMW. After the IX3 (Na5) switched off things in 2025-2026, the 2026 i3 limousine will follow as a second NEE-class model, with the efficiency of long-haules, ultra-fast loads and promising great BMW dynamics being combined.
Production and timeline

The series production of the i3 sedan begins in July 2026 in the Munich plant of BMW, which becomes one of the first BMW systems that are fully devoted to the production of electric vehicles. According to the sources, US SPEC production is scheduled to begin in November 2026, with deliveries in Europe begin at around the same time. The performance -oriented i3 M60 XDrive is expected to enter production in March 2027. European production is to be continued by October 2034. This signals that BMW expects this to be a long -term core model.
Modeling

The BMW i3 (Na0) is expected to start with the following versions, but remember that at this point none of this was confirmed by BMW:
- i3 20-entry engine model
- I3 40-mid-class rear-wheel drive variant
- I3 40 XDRIVE dual engine all-wheel drive
- I3 50-high-ranking long-distance version
- i3 50 XDRIVE – XDRIVE variant and the first starting model in America
- I3 M60 XDRIVE high-performance flagship
Sources state that the i3 50 XDrive will be the starting version, whereby the 40 XDRIVE and the M60 XDRIVE join the line -up within one year.
Drive train and battery technology

The sixth generation of BMW in the IX3 SUV is presented in the i3 sedan. This architecture of the next generation introduces cylindrical battery cells instead of prismatic units and provides:
- 20 % higher energy density
- 30 % faster load capacity
- 25 % better overall efficiency

The new batteries work with an 800-volt architecture and enable charging speeds of up to 405 kW in IX3. We expect similar charging speeds in the i3 models with a higher price. According to the BMW, the system can recover in 10 minutes about 350 kilometers (WLTP cycle) (WLTP cycle).
Both back and all-wheel drive configurations are still available, but always with a rear drive as a starting point. Thermal management and energy recovery systems have also been redesigned to improve the consistency under driving with a high load.
Reach and shop

The new class i3 sedan will share a large part of its electrical architecture with the IX3 50 XDrive, but should benefit from improved aerodynamics and a lower weight. BMW quotes a maximum WLTP range of 805 km WLTP for the IX3, and insiders suggest that the i3 sedan in the WLTP cycle could again reach a similar area. EPA estimates are always lower. In North America, the i3 will take over the port of NACS (North American Lading Standard), which gives owners, along with other networks, access to Tesla’s Supercharger Network.
Interior and technology

Inside, the new class I3 will debut the IDRIVE X operating system from BMW with a simplified user interface and an improved language interaction. A new panoramic view display shows information about the base of the windshield and replaces traditional instrument clusters.
A 17.9-inch center display serves as the primary infotainment hub, while the minimalist design of the steering wheel contains haptic buttons. Sustainable materials, renewable fabrics and advanced ambient lighting indicate the sound for the next generation of BMW.
Design and outside details

The latest spy photos show the i3 sedan, which apparently wore headlights and taillights and mark a transition from the concept to reality. The car adopts extended kidneys that are integrated in slim LED headlights and reflects the design language of the Vision NEE class.
Sinking door handles, a smoothed body surface and new aero-wheel designs improve efficiency and give the i3 a futuristic but brave presence. The camouflage still hides finer details in the rear quarter and Hofmeister Kink, but the overall silhouette confirms a strong similarity to the next generation 3 (G50).
BMW tests prototypes for left and right hand and confirms global availability from the start.
Competition and positioning

BMW positions the i3 sedan directly against the Tesla Model 3, Polestar 2 and the upcoming electrical limousines of Mercedes-Benz and Audi. The i3 50 XDrive will probably keep up with the Tesla model 3 long-distance distances both in price and in performance, while the M60 XDRIVE can compete directly with the performance of the model 3 and the higher Lucid Air Pure.
With a forecast starting price of around 50,000 US dollars in the USA, the i3 limousine is expected to serve as an electrical equivalent of the current 330i, which offers the signature dynamics of BMW in full electrical form.
