Do you know this feeling when you stumble across something amazing just to be reminded that you can’t have it? That was me, which stood in the Garage of the BMW Romania and stared at a Twilight Purple 2025 BMW M3 Touring competition. I was back in Bucharest to visit family and friends, but let’s be honest – I also drove cool cars. And this? This was the forbidden fruit. We don’t get it in the USA, which still makes absolutely zero.
Before we use the drive, let me set the scene. BMW Romania has a stacked press fleet. But underground hidden this jewel of a car with a real set of 825 m double spoke wheels and disguised to impress in this rich, atmospheric purple. It was even loaded with a child seat and sufficient load space to cope with my wife’s four suitcases. That’s correct. Four. We visited a week and did not change. But hey, great chance to test the practicality.
Bucharest: A beautiful, chaotic driving simulator

Driving in Bucharest is … an experience. To be honest, it is like jumping into your personal Formula -1 championship. You need quick reflexes, a heavy right foot and eyes everywhere. As soon as the light becomes green, it is a race. They choose pedestrians who assume that they are invincible, weave through narrow streets and hope that nobody is parked in the lane through which they drive through (spoiler: someone definitely did it).
There is a reason why they call Bucharest “Little Paris”. The architectural contrast between the elegance of the old world and blocks of the communist era tells a story. But the cars? Man, I saw more Ferraris and Lambos in one day than in a week in Chicago. Nevertheless, the M3 tour held itself in the middle of the madness. Thanks to its light steering and pile of torque, it was easy to maneuver. The 360-degree camera? Lifeguard. In narrow streets and chaotic parking situations, it felt less like a luxury sports car and more like a powerful city tank.
Despite its size – because we don’t pretend that this is a small car – the M3 tour never felt too much. In comfort mode, potholes soaked it better than most sedans. And yes, Bucharest’s roads are better for the recording than Chicago. I said it.
Let’s talk about performance, because wow

If you are not familiar with the G81 M3 touring, a quick summary of the introduction of 2024 was started in 2022. Together with the cosmetic update, BMW, together with the performance of the 3.0-liter twin turbo inline-Six, was increased the performance of the 3.0-liter twin turbo-SIX. We are now talking about 523 hp and 479 LB-FT torque. Officially, BMW claims 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds. But real tests say something else. This thing can do it in 3.4 seconds. In a car.
And you feel it. Get it out of the city and the Romania Carpathians Mountain Roads and the touring is transformed. Push it in Sport Plus and it sharpens like a switchblade. The chassis, which was attributed from the limousine to master the additional 85 kg of touring, does not miss a blow. Grip is immensely immensely, body role is almost not present, and the way it supplies Michelin PS4S rubber through corners is self-sufficiency. It is a car that dares to go faster – until your conscience or wife in the passenger seat reminds you to slow down.
Let me explain something: The torque curve in this car is like your favorite track ride. It climbs hard, briefly flatten and then throws them forward again. The acceleration has almost no end. And yet it never feels brutal or sketchy. M xDrive keeps everything neat, and if you are brave (or stupid), you can choose it in a more preliminary setup for extra -long -term fun.
Landstrasse and Autobahn Zen

The real surprise did not come to tight switches, but on the open highway. Here the M3 touring proves that it is not just a track weapon, but a legitimate road trip machine. Yes, even with the M Carbon bucket.
Don’t get me wrong now. These carbon buckets look the business and keep them on the spot like a fighter aircraft system. But after four or five hours, the hard bolster and the carbon plate begin their presence under their thighs. To be honest, the next time I would specify the M sports seats. Nevertheless, they didn’t stop me from enjoying the long bumps.
With the driver aid, the adaptive speed control and the straight six, which hardly broke sweat, effortlessly ate the miles. And even my wife – usually a fan of Plüsch -Suvs like X7 or Range Rover – had no complaints about the trip. That says something.
Inside it is still a BMW

Join inside and are welcomed by the familiar (and enormous) curved display and the latest IDRIVE setup from BMW is welcomed. It deals with both the measuring cluster and the infotainment with crispy graphics and an intuitive layout. Sure, some menus are buried a little deeply, but as soon as you have saved your favorite drive settings on the M1 and M2 steering wheel buttons, it’s smooth sailing.
You will receive full access to drive train and chassis configuration. This means that you can mix an aggressive power supply with gentle suspension and adapt-my contact points for sketchy roads and unexpected dips. To be honest, this personalization makes the difference in a daily driver.

Cargo dream? Legitimate. With the places you get 17.6 cubic feet – slightly from the sedan – and over 53 cubes with folded seats. For comparison, an X3 gives you a little more, but the soul of the M3 is missing. Even with a child seat behind my bucket, the rear legroom was perfectly sufficient. You could absolutely use this as your only car.
So … would I buy one?

If BMW offered the M3 tour in the USA, I already have one. No exaggeration. It’s so good.
I know that the M5 touring is now on our banks and not false to me, the thing is a beast. But it is also heavier, more expensive and aims at another buyer. The M3 touring would have been the enthusiast’s dream every day. A heroic car. The type of machine you hit the car and people get it. It’s fast. It is composed. It’s beautiful. And it is practical enough to justify a spouse who would otherwise exist on a crossover.
Even the radiator grille works. Yes, I said it.
After a week with the 2025 BMW M3 Touring competition, I didn’t want to give it back. It is the type of car that gets under your skin in the best way – same parts functional and wild. It handled Bucharest’s urban jungle (with a few bruises, sorry Alex), cut seven injury like a hot knife and drove with balance on motorways.
This is absolutely the a car that made BMW USA fall on the ball. The M3 touring could have been the Halo car for the brand M in the states -a rolling shop window of everything that BMW does right. Instead, it is just another example that Europe gets the good things while watching from the sidelines.
That is the real shame. Because sometimes the coolest cars are those that we cannot have. And that? This is one of them.

After a week behind the wheel of the BMW M3 Touring competition 2025, it is difficult not to feel a little frustrated. This is one of these rare cars that really do everything that is equal to part-performance monsters, long-distance cruisers and family tractors. It carved through mountain roads with the precision of a real M car, soaked chaos in the city, without twitching, and swallowed luggage and baby equipment like a real car. And yet despite its brilliance, it remains unreachable for American buyers. That is the stitch. The M3 touring is not just a great car – it’s a statement. A Halo car that proves that you do not have to compromise on the function. BMW M did everything right with this. You just didn’t send it to the right side of the Atlantic.
