The BMW Z4 production may have been expanded again

The Z4 may not be long for this world, but the small sports car does not give up without a fight. We first heard that the “G29” was replaced in October 2025, but his death was supposedly pushed back to March 2026. A new report strengthens the previous rumor, but with a turn. BMW is reported that the production of all Z4 models, with the exception of the US M40i, will be deployed next March.

After a trustworthy Bimmer Post Forum Quelle, the Z4 in M performance cladding for the United States remains in production for another two months. As a result, the very last car has an unconfirmed production date in May 2026. In the same source it is also mentioned that the final US American Supra rolls the assembly line.

The Z4 and Supra are not built in a BMW factory. Production was outsourced to Magna Steyr’s work in Graz, Austria. While Toyota has already promised to bring Supra back, BMW does not intend to pursue another Z car. Before it is gone, there seems to be a late increase in demand for the convertible in the rear wheel drive. In the first quarter of 2025, deliveries rose by 4.2% to 2,436 units compared to the period from January to March 2024.

The Z4 M40i is one of the few remaining BMWs with a manual transmission. Only the M2 and basic versions of M3 and M4 belong to this exclusive club. But since the M3 “G84” is supposedly only automatic in 2028 and no M4 of the next generation on the horizon, the days of the three-pedal models are numbered. The M2 is probably the last hurray for the shell layer. The “G87” will probably remain in production by the end of 2029. So let’s hope that the manual will survive until the end.

A successor to the Z4 is not planned, which is generally hardly a surprise given the decline of convertibles. The 8 -way convertible will also die soon. As soon as the droptop 4 has disappeared, BMW remains in its line -up without a convertible. However, there could be an i4 convertible (“Na3”) in the whole line. It is hard to imagine that a luxurious car manufacturer is as large as BMW that does not sell at least one car with a folding top.
