The Red Bull drift brothers Eli and Joe Hountondji are back at the start. After building a crazy M4 smoke machine with four-digit horsepower, their next project car is based on the M2. It is becoming a radical version of the smallest model in the M division, although the M4 certainly did not go unnoticed.

Although the car is clearly still in the development phase, one detail stands out: the quad exhaust mounted directly under the roof. It’s positioned in the same place as the M4, where the 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine has been tuned to produce 1,025 hp and 1,285 Nm (948 lb-ft). The M2 uses the same inline-six as in the production version, but who knows how much power the Red Bull Driftbrothers will squeeze out this time.

The stripped-down M2 is missing most of the body panels, with only the roof and rear fenders remaining. We imagine the finished car will feature an exceptional body kit to fill in the gaps. From what we can see, the interior features a full roll cage and has space for just one seat. As if it wasn’t already obvious from the video that this isn’t a standard G87, the description makes it clear, presumably for legal reasons:

“The vehicles shown do not correspond to the standard vehicles of the BMW M series. They have been significantly modified and equipped with accessories from third parties and/or custom-made products, for the nature and use of which BMW assumes no responsibility.”

Given its smaller size compared to the M4, we reckon the M2 should prove to be an even better basis for a wild drift machine tamed by Eli and Joe Hountondji. It is clear that the team will need more time to complete the construction, but the result will be simply spectacular. Although an xDrive version will reportedly be available next year, it makes more sense to stick with the rear-drive model when it comes to rear-happy shenanigans.
