This man drove his BMW 5 Series almost 1 million kilometers

Don’t you do it as before? This is not a problem for Juha Bäckmand. He has been driving the same 5 for almost 30 years. His elegant E39, which was built on June 10, 1996, is still strong despite its age. BMW Classic recently moved social media into the luxury sedan, which was completed with a suitable interior in Glacier Green.

But this E39 has more than its impressive longevity. Bäckmand has collected almost a million kilometers since the delivery 29 years ago. He documented important milestones on the way, including a photo of the kilometer knife at the 500,000 kilometer brand. All another 100,000 kilometers guaranteed another snapshot that culminated in a picture that shows 940,503 kilometers (584,401 miles) on the clock.

Although the temperature sensor in board once showed a cold potash 34.5 ° C (-30.1 ° f), BMW Classic learned that the car was still exposed to hard conditions. At one point, Bäckmands 523i had no problems starting and driving the temperatures of -37.5 ° C (-35.5 ° f). Remarkably, after almost three decades and almost a million kilometers, the 5 keeps their original engine and gear. The interior remains untouched and most of the original color is still intact.

Whenever the maintenance was needed, Bäckmand insisted on using only real parts related to authorized BMW service centers. His E39 is one of the earliest examples that were put together during the first year of production of the model. It is driven by a naturally sucked 2.5-liter inline-Six M52 engine, which generates 168 hp and 245 Nm (181 LB-FT) torque and sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed gear.

Reaching one million kilometers over 29 years means that the car was almost 35,000 kilometers per year. The fact that it remains in excellent condition speaks volumes about the importance of regular maintenance and some possibly about the superior processing quality of the 1990s.

BMW Classic says that more details about the car and its committed owners will come shortly, and we will watch closer to learning more about this rolling time capsule.
