If you can’t get enough of Speedtop, you are in the right place. This weekend BMW pushed its new shooting brake in the Concorso d’Elanza Villa d’Este. Although officially charged as a concept, the production version looks practically identical. A new series of exclusive pictures taken on the banks of the Como lake shows how we can also call a two-door M8 tour with completely tailor-made body.
The German luxury car manufacturer takes a page from the coachbuilding book from Rolls-Royce. After the last year with Targa Skytop, the follow-up shooting brake is also a two-seater, but with far more space in the back. Pictures do not do justice to the car; You have to see it in the metal to fully appreciate its beauty. Unfortunately, only a few will ever get the chance to admire one. BMW only makes 70 cars and Logic tells us that most of them do not leave their air -conditioned garages.
BMW has tailored the speedtop to “collector and connoisseur”, which indirectly tells us that it is translucent. An official prize was not announced, but like the skytop we hear that the car costs around € 500,000. Is it worth the massive premium compared to an M8? This is questionable, but we are sure that it will not take long for the entire production run to be spoken. After all, BMW found buyers for all skytops, although this model had a shorter run of only 50 units.

Both special projects are M8S under the skin, so it is no surprise that the cars contain the older iDrive system. We appreciate the separate physical controls instead of bringing everything into a touchscreen. While the exterior has a real recording of becoming timeless, the cabin will inevitably age due to the dual screen setup. So the biscuit crumbles with modern technology.
Some of the ultra -rich would probably have more variety at this exorbitant price. We can only imagine how much desirable the speedtop with analog dials would have been and no tablet protrudes from the dashboard. A manual transmission is equally a pipe dream, although wealthy purists have flocked to the car if it had been delivered with a stick. Despite its imperfections, it is proof that BMW can still design a wonderful, beautiful car, even if only a few can only afford one.
There are more about special projects. In the Villa d’Este, the BMW group leader from Design Adrian van Hooydonk referred to the prospects for other cars with a low volume.
