Special editions limited to certain markets are usually high-end versions that you can put together yourself in the online configurator. However, the Nishiki Lounge for Japan does something that no other BMW SUV has ever offered before. Yes, a two-tone paint job. The only BMW to combine two colors was the 7 Series, starting with Karl Lagerfeld’s L7.
With the X7, which is only available in Japan, BMW is following the tradition of Rolls-Royce, but with a twist. The Luxobarge will be built in Spartanburg along with the rest of the “G07” series. However, it is then shipped to Japan, where it is repainted and given a second color at the local branch. The opulent SUV we filmed at the Japan Mobility Show wore Space Silver over Velvet Blue.
Japanese buyers are not limited to this combination. The X7 Nishiki Lounge can also be ordered with an upper body in Oxide Gray or Black Sapphire. In addition, several individual colors are offered for the lower half. A carriage line separates the two colors in a, one might say, Rolls-Royce Cullinan-like style. Customers can also upgrade from the xDrive40d to the more powerful M60.

We couldn’t pass up taking a look inside because the interior looks immediately familiar, but the atmosphere feels completely different. The interior features exclusive trim pieces with 12 traditional Japanese patterns that extend to the floor mats. As if that wasn’t eye-catching enough, there are foil decorations on the dashboard, door panels and center console.
BMW is only building five units, the X7 xDrive40d priced at 14,380,000 yen ($91,800) and the However, you’ll pay a hefty premium of 5,500,000 yen ($35,100) for the distinctive two-tone paint job.
The X7 Nishiki Lounge could be a hint of what lies ahead. A two-tone second-generation model launching in 2027 wouldn’t be a surprise. And as BMW continues to push ALPINA up the ante, a two-tone X7 “G69” no longer sounds far-fetched.
