Mini will delight its drivers with a playful and expressive new feature: “Emoji mode”, which will soon come to all current Mini models that are equipped with dynamic taillights. This new function is available from April 1st via a simple over-the-air update and is activated by remote software upgrade technology, which is already used in over 10 million BMW group vehicles-and no dealer visit. With the introduction of the emoji mode, Mini is redefined how we connect on the street. Regardless of whether it is a short thank you, a warm greeting or even a cheeky flirt, mini drivers can now use your taillights to share emojis with other street users.
The dynamic taillights of the current mini area are of central importance for this innovation. The new emoji mode is particularly suitable for urban traffic and makes it easier to send short, friendly messages to the driver behind it. In the first official pictures we see the Mini-Aceman JCW (J05), who cheerfully with a friendly wave, an increased thumb up and several heart-ideal for a bit of playful charm or a little “thank you” for thoughtful driving.

The drivers can easily select emojis via the signature 24-centimeter circular OLED display of the brand, whereby a dedicated menu offers a variety of expression symbols. When braking, the selected emoji lights up next to the third brake light, and for legal reasons, every emoji does not appear for more than three seconds after the other. In order to improve user-friendliness, the mini system also makes three intelligent emoji suggestions based on the driving context and offer real-time mood options for the driver.
At the start, only positive and friendly symbols will be available. However, Mini points out that future updates could unlock a wider emotional palette – and the approximation that not every traffic encounter guarantees a smile. The brand says that the emoji mode will remain exclusively for the Mini brand until April 1, 2026. Once again, Mini proves that “unreal” does not exist in his vocabulary.
