It has never looked so bleak for the most iconic brand in Germany, maybe since the days just before the Boxster rolled the assembly line. Porsche is in bad and worse every day, since the brand is no longer in Germany’s blue chip-dax index today. However, there was a growing list of problems published long before these messages were published, since Porsche’s sales figures in China and Europe decreased by 28% and 23% after the first half of 2025 in June. While growth in the USA continued (although the tariffs harm the result), it was not enough to compensate for the weakening demand for EVS worldwide and the inability to gain a foothold in China.
However, it becomes even more turbulating for Porsche because they want to replace the gas -powered Macan. Although the Macan EV is almost 60% of the turnover for Porsche’s smallest crossover worldwide, the numbers do not draw the full picture, since the ice version is no longer sold in Europe for the time being, while buyers can still buy their favorite sports cladding in North America. For Porsche it is essential for Porsche to present a new generation that provides both gas and a hybrid variant.
Now with this feeling of urgency or the duty, we say that despair Porsche is about to do something in which Ferdinand Porsche rolls in his grave.
An Audi Q5-based Porsche Macan
You guessed that Porsche needs a replacement so quickly that you are willing to copy and insert all the new Audi Q5, hit a Porsche badge and somehow distinguish your little crossover from his cousin. The icing on the cake here is that this new generation, which is currently known as M1, is called the Quattro AWD system from Audi and the Audi (Premium platform) PPC platform (Premium platform). Never in Porsche’s 94 -year history has ever been a FWD model, but by 2028 we see exactly what we could see.
In order to pump the brakes a little, the Macan shared the first generation that Macan shared with the Audi Q5/SQ5 via the MLB Evo platform, but Porsche developed its own AWD system for this crossover and at the same time used a different V6 engine and gear than the SQ5. This time the Germans may be the same mistake that the death command for Ford and GM signed 30-40 years ago and that did not distinguish their premium brands from the mainstream constellations.
Is the Audi Q5 really that bad?
In experiments to find a silver strip here, the Q5 traditionally was an extraordinary frequency, one of the best if we are honest. However, this new Audi Q5 and its PPC platform, which is closely related to the EV basics that can be found in the e-tron list, is simply not. The mannerisms of the Q5 are despite the return of the 7-speed automatic transmission and the light performance climb with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission and do not even start with the Google integration with the Android-based software. It is terrible.
The previous rescue is the SQ5, which felt similar to a current Porsche Macan during our review. The V6 was lively and the weight distribution made it possible for the SQ5 to corn with far more confidence, although the BMW X3 M50 is still the better crossover of the driver.
When AutoCar is reported factually and true, the next Macan or “M1” may be a rushed product to fill a gap unnecessarily created by a brand that has achieved its goal of 80% of the worldwide sales from its EV structure. To be honest that Porsche now has no great choice. You cannot go backwards and build the assembly lines to build an outdated vehicle, but an identical twin to the Q5 is also not a practical solution.
