What a line -up that Ford had in the 1970s and 1980s! From Capri to the Eskorte, many enthusiasts still dream of these classics today. While the Capri has returned as a bulky electric crossover, the escort was missing – until now. Boreham Motorworks has changed and Ford Fans’ Hearts run with excitement. The British team has coordinated its latest high-performance creation on Boreham Airfield.
The name “Boreham” is no coincidence. These performance specialists based in Great Britain do not want to create soulless new editions, but rather maintain the essence of original models while modernizing them. Your mission has the official support of Will Ford, General Manager of Ford Performance. “From our first meeting with Boreham Motorworks and the DRVN team it was clear that they had an exciting vision of bringing some of our most iconic historical models into modernity. I am excited to see how this partnership develops, ”he said.
Boreham Motorworks bravely claims that this is the ultimate development of the escort MK1 and its RS line. The original RS models were light, showed high-ranking 2.0-liter engines and pushed about 245 hp. The basis for the new model was clear. The team has developed a modern iteration of the Ford Escort MK1 RS and described it more as a “Continumode” than a mere “Restomod”.
The term “Continumod” underlines the close connection of the car to its origins. Two engine options are available: the legendary TwinCam four-cylinder was expanded to 1,845 ccm and equipped with fuel injection, which creates 185 hp. This variant is delivered with a four-speed manual transmission. The more extreme 2.1-liter engine weighs less than 85 kg and speed up to 10,000 rpm and delivers amazing 300 hp. Thanks to the carbon fiber components-the bonnet and the interior is only 800 kg weight to ensure an incredible ratio of electricity to weight.
An reinforced chassis with a roller cage, the MacPherson strut front suspension and 205/225-wide tires ensure that all this performance is effectively transferred to the road. The weight distribution is optimized at 55:45 rear distortion. Beated four-piston brakes in front of the front and twin-piston brake calipers ensure sufficient stopping force, while LED headlights offer modern lighting.
There is a disadvantage for fans: only 150 units of this cult driver are built, each around € 350,000. But the enthusiasts still hope that Boreham will continue to revive Ford’s legendary line -up – maybe with a Sierra RS next?
