The current 4 and M4 list of BMW could stay on the market longer than expected. According to the well-known insider Ynguldyn, the production of the G22 4-series coupé, the Cabrio of the G23 4 series, the G82 M4 coupé and the G83 M4-convertible can be extended by mid-2029. The rumor is more based on BMW model data than on human sources, which means that it could still change, but it indicates that BMW keeps its ice cream coupes and convertibles alive until the decade.
Two m coupes by 2029

The updated data also show that the G87 M2 remains until July 2029. This means that BMW has two G8X M coupes – M2 and M4 – for sale for at least the next four years. This is unusual, but it makes sense in the context of BMW’s flexible strategy and it is great news for the “ice” community. Initially, it was rumored that the company has no immediate successor for the ICE 4 series or M4 (a claim confirmed by BMW), but as we can see again, the flexible Clar platform enables you to further produce and refresh these cars without developing a brand new chassis.
Since the new class platform on EVS is laser-oriented, the brand can drive out the success of the current models and possibly offer a further refresher on the way.
This is particularly important for BMW M. M products are based on BMW AG donor cars. Without the -4er coupé and convertible, there is no basis for the M4. The expansion of the G82/G83 ensures that the M department has the runway that it needs while the market, regulations and technology develop.
Flexible architecture at work

This is the payment of BMW’s flexible Clar architecture. In contrast to brands, which are enclosed in fixed ice or EV cycles, BMW can adjust production time plans without tearing everything on and starting fresh. If ice demand remains stable, the company can continue to offer cars like the M4. If the electrification accelerates faster than expected, BMW can turn into new class.
In any case, customers win. Enthusiasts who still want inline-six ice performance in a modern coupé or convertible have this option until the second half of the decade. And for BMW it buys time – time to re -evaluate the demand, regulations and development priorities before deciding whether another generation of ice cream cars makes sense.
The snack is currently simple: the 4 and M4 will soon be going somewhere.
