New designs show what the next BMW 2 series could look like

The compact sports coupé from BMW and one of the most entertaining BMWs that can drive today. The 2 Series (Codename G42) has already received its mid-cycle facelift-but it is difficult for them to recognize the changes. Even the latest technical update, which increased the output of the M240i XDRIVE to 386 hp, the exterior leaves almost unaffected. And while the current model remains one of the most committed drivers of the BMW, the future of the 2 series list is anything but safe.

The most recent design renderings from Theo Groseltzeit represents the G42 with the lens of the new class design language from BMW. The Photoshopped concepts have the sporting proportions of the compact coupé with Cues from the new BMW IX3 (NA5)-the first production model to embody the orientation of the next generation of BMW. We have already heard from BMW that the new class design language is not only slipped for new models, but also for facelifts about the installation up and down.

While the upright SUV form of the IX3 is not a direct template for models with a low search as the 2-series series, the design exercise shows how the same visual philosophy can be beautifully converted into a sporty coupé. A small kidney grille, which is integrated into a black horizontal band and was paired with clean surfaces and upright proportions, is reminiscent of the 3 Series of the E30 3 of the 1980s -a car that once the same youthful, enthusiastic audience as today’s 2 series.

In the back, the concept puts the license plate re -positioned in the bumper to create space for width, horizontal taillights, which span the width of the car, which are only interrupted by the BMW Roundel. Despite the modern light signature, the coupé retains its signature integrated fuselage spoiler, while a new diffuser adapts to the visual language of the new class and emphasizes width and sportiness.

An uncertain future for the 2 series coupé

Apart from speculation, the official BMW plans for the 2 Series series remain unclear. According to sources, the production of the G42 is expected to continue until July 2029, but no combustion successor has been approved. There are rumors about a potential I2 model based on the new class architecture and is temporarily planned for 2028. However, insiders indicate that it could take a four -door fastback rather than a traditional coupé. We should also consider that a flexible architecture – Clar – BMW can close the gap between the products by simply refreshing the design on the same platform and giving the ice models a new life. At the moment, BMW has not confirmed any of these options.

Until then, the updated M240i and its M2 counter continue to fly the flag for the traditional driving values of BMW Rear-Rar-Rad-Drive proportions, inline-SIX power and a balance of analog charm and modern performance. One of the most fascinating open questions from the brand contains whether his final replacement will preserve this spirit or reinvent the electrical era.
